Unsolicited advice

Once in a while it’s helpful, well received, and appreciated.

More often it’s an annoyance. Or worse, an insult.

“I’d like to offer you help” is easily misinterpreted as, “I don’t trust you to figure this out on your own.”

If we see someone in need, offering help is a great practice.

But if we want to show them our trust and respect, we are wise to let them ask before we start dishing out advice.
