Most of us are lucky enough to have people in our lives who love and support us.
But when we change our path to a more difficult one, one that leads to self improvement, an interesting thing happens:
Our supporters start working against us.
With the best of intentions they provide excuses to break our commitment, and even encourage us to do so. Anything to save us from the difficult road that lies ahead.
Intending to support us, they add to our load.
The burden falls on us to communicate who we seek to become to those we love:
“This is where I’m headed, and what the journey might look like. I expect it to be hard, but worth it. And I would love your support.”
A difficult conversation to have, but one that will bring people closer.
