It is amazing how quickly our minds can turn on us: one frustrating experience is all it takes to undo weeks of momentum or progress.
I thought I was finally getting somewhere, but this experience makes it clear that I haven’t made progress at all.
Even amidst an abundance of positive experiences that would suggest the opposite, we remain biased toward the negative: it’s the loudest voice in our minds.
We turn down the volume with gratitude.
Rather than fixating on the thing that went wrong, we can choose to focus our attention on all the things that have been going right in our lives, each and every day.
There’s plenty there that we take for granted.
When we stop and pay attention, we see that the negative experience was the exception and not the rule.
