The work we do in the last 2-3 weeks before a trip sharpens the spear.
But the years and months leading up to that are what shape the haft and forge the head.
A little sharpening hones the weapon.
But if we sharpen too much, the tip will become brittle and break.
Similarly, if we didn’t take the time to build the spear well, no amount of sharpening will make up the difference.
