“You want to be a half step ahead.”

When you are trying to communicate a new idea, you want to be a half step ahead of your audience.

If you are a full step ahead, it’s too far; people can’t relate, or they won’t get it. 

If you are zero steps ahead, you’re not being helpful or saying anything new.

Half a step. 

Not so far that they can’t catch up, but far enough for them to begin to see where you’re going.
