The practice of gratitude

It’s just that: a practice.

Our brains have a negative bias—receive ten heartfelt compliments throughout the course of a day, and your brain will fixate on the single insult you received in the morning (or a week ago).

And so we must practice every day.

Practice by taking a moment to appreciate each miraculous thing that goes right:

The car that starts at the press of a button.

The coffee that brews itself perfectly.

The people who choose to share their lives with us.

Practice, practice, practice. As with anything else, we eventually get better.

When we get better at gratitude, we improve our own lives and the lives of everyone around us.
